Intermediate Watercolor

prerequisites: Beginning Watercolor or equivalent

This class focuses on giving students a deeper understanding of the medium through working from still life setups. It will include:

  • discussion of watercolor materials

  • discussion of color mixing and paint properties specific to watercolors

  • discussion of brush strokes and the four basic washes (flat wash, graded wash, wet into wet wash, streaked wash) and painting methods in watercolor (direct, wet into wet, dry brush and glazing)

  • discussion of composition and design

Classes will including instructor demonstrations and exercises of subjects discussed. There will also be homework exercises to be reviewed at the beginning of each class.
