Beginning & Intermediate Oil Painting
Instructor: Diego Larguia
Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing or equivalent
This is an introduction to the basic materials and traditional techniques of oil painting. Students use inanimate objects as themes for pictorial composition. The knowledge students acquire in Beginning Oil Painting is absolutely essential to all other oil painting classes, including all Still Life, Figure, Portrait, and Landscape courses. Intermediate painting students may join this class and will receive assignments and instruction based on their level of experience.
Students who have never taken this class with Diego before will spend the first roughly 9 class sessions on specific painting exercises. These may include the color wheel, painting folded/curved colored paper and solid-color bottles/other vessels, and they build upon each other in complexity. Only after completing the basic assigned exercises will first-time students choose their own still life set up to paint.
This class takes place in our 2nd floor painting studio with ample artificial lighting.
