Alla Prima Oil Painting

Instructor: Billy Solitario

Prerequisite: Beginning Oil Painting or equivalent

Alla prima (Italian, meaning at first attempt), or wet-on-wet, is a painting technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint.  This technique requires a fast way of working, because the painting has to be finished before the first layers have dried.

This alla prima painting class is for students who have taken at least a beginning oil painting class. Each week students will work on a new still life setup, with the painting to be finished on the same day. The instructor will show techniques of alla prima painting in class demonstrations, and images of alla prima paintings will be discussed for inspiration.

This class meets in our second-floor northlit porch studio. It includes uninterrupted studio space for students in this class to use Mondays - Saturdays, 9am - 4pm.
