Course Description

Intro to Creative Writing

Instructor: Elias Keller

This class will introduce how to use creative writing and storytelling to tap into a deeper understanding of our lives. Students will read contemporary and classic texts to learn about fundamentals such as plot, character, dialogue, tone, and theme. Each student will develop a writing project to draft, revise and polish by the end of the semester. Class sessions will consist of in-class writing exercises, structured peer critique, discussions about assigned readings, and instructor guidance on your individual writing project. While our focus will be on fiction stories, the skills we will learn and practice are also appropriate for students interested in writing creative non-fiction forms, such as essays, artist statements, and memoirs.
