Portfolio Website

Instructor: Lauren Andrews

Now more than ever, galleries and buyers are looking online to gage an artist’s credibility, and in order to succeed as a professional artist, it is crucial to have a website.

The purpose of this class is to teach students how to build and maintain a professional looking portfolio website for their artwork.  Students will be guided through the step-by-step process of building their own website using templates on Squarespace.  We will cover the following topics:

  • Idea gathering and research
  • Business visioning
  • Setting up a Squarespace account
  • Picking a domain
  • Picking a template
  • Website planning
  • Branding and logo design
  • Photographing/scanning work
  • Image editing
  • Writing website content
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Social media
  • Website launch

Each week, any work that is not completed in class will need to be completed at home.  Students should be prepared to spend anywhere from 1 to 6 hours on homework outside of class.  Furthermore, it is important that students attend all of the classes in order to keep up with their website project.  If a class must be missed, please let the teacher know in advance.

Students must bring their own laptop and purchase a subscription to Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom through the $9.99 per month Adobe Creative Cloud plan.  If a student does not want to use Photoshop, they must have another image editing program that they are comfortable using.  Due to the unreliability of the wifi service at the Academy, students must provide their own wifi via a mobile hotspot.  This class cannot be completed without internet access.
