Nell Tilton is a native New Orleanian who has been painting for a good part of the last 50 years, all the while expanding into various forms of art and media. In her present abstract work, she paints with an intuitiveness and emotional response, without deliberation at the start of a painting, but ultimately considers the formal elements - line, shape, space, color, value - that, together with the expressive element, strives to make a composition pleasing, complete and stimulating, if not powerful.
With a background developed from her studies alongside individual teachers of distinction, and a solid education in the classic arts at NOAFA, Nell was able to use those skills and knowledge to transition into an abstract approach with conviction and proficiency. Constantly experimenting with materials and subject matter, she is continually building knowledge from her explorations and observations.
Nell has received many awards for her art and is collected widely throughout the U.S. She is represented locally by Carol Robinson Gallery and has been on the faculty at NOAFA since 2002.
